1. Who we are
Kinmarq is operated by Kinmarq LLC (“Kinmarq”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at admin@kinmarq.com.
2. What Kinmarq does
Kinmarq keeps a permanent identity record for an animal: who owns it, its vaccinations, its custody history, and photographs of it. A QR tag on the animal’s collar links to a page that lets whoever finds it reach you.
Some organizations — towns, veterinary practices, shelters — use Kinmarq to administer licensing and to hold records for animals in their care.
3. Your account
You must be at least 16 and give accurate contact details. Your record is only as useful as its accuracy: if we cannot reach you, we cannot help return your animal. Keep your details current.
You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it.
4. Your content, and what we do with it
You keep ownership of everything you upload— photographs, records, notes. You grant us a licence to store it, display it where you have asked us to (including on a public page reached by scanning your pet’s tag), and process it to provide the service.
4.1 Photographs on the public page
A pet’s photographs are shown on the page reached by scanning its tag, so whoever finds the animal can confirm it is the right one. Anyone with the tag, or the link, can see them. Do not upload a photograph you would not want shown to a stranger who has picked up your pet.
4.2 Using photographs to improve identification
We are building the ability to identify an animal from a photograph, so a pet found without a tag can still be reunited with its owner. This only works if the software has learned from real photographs of real animals.
By uploading a photograph you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it to develop, train, evaluate and improve our animal-identification models. This is on by default.
- We use the photographs, and the fact that several photographs show the same animal. That pairing is what the software learns from.
- We do not sell your photographs, and we do not publish them anywhere beyond the display described in 4.1.
- We do not use your name, address, or contact details for this purpose.
- You can turn this off at any time in your account settings. It applies to photographs you have already uploaded as well as future ones — an objection that only covered the future would be half-honoured.
- Turning it off cannot reverse what a model has already learned, because a trained model does not keep the pictures it learned from. It stops future use.
5. Paid plans, tags and fees
Subscriptions. Kinmarq Plus and organization plans renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time; your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew. We do not refund part-periods unless the law requires it.
Physical products. Tags and collars are charged when ordered. If one arrives faulty, tell us and we will replace it.
Licence fees. Where a town collects a pet licence fee through Kinmarq, the town is the merchant of recordand the money goes to the town’s own payment account. We never hold it. Refunds, disputes and the fee amount itself are matters for the town, not for us.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
6. What we do not promise
Kinmarq helps reunite animals; it cannot guarantee it. We do not promise that a scan will reach you, that a photograph match will be correct, or that the service will be uninterrupted.
Photograph identification produces suggestions, not proof. A suggested match must always be confirmed by a person before anyone acts on it. Never rely on it alone to hand over an animal.
Records are only as accurate as what people enter. We show who added each entry and when, so it can be judged — we do not independently verify most of it.
7. Organizations and shared records
If you register your pet with an organization — a town for licensing, a vet for records — that organization can see the parts of the record relevant to that relationship, and the record shows what they did. Removing an organization’s access does not erase what it legitimately recorded, because history that can be deleted is not history.
8. Deleting things
You can delete your pet or your account at any time. We remove the animal’s record and its photographs. Two things survive, and it is fairer to say so plainly than to bury it:
- The event log. Kinmarq records that things happened — a scan, a transfer, a licence issued. Those events stay, referring to a record that no longer resolves. They are what makes the register trustworthy.
- Records another party is required to keep, such as a town’s licensing history or a vet’s clinical records, which are theirs and not ours to delete.
9. Acceptable use
Do not use Kinmarq to claim an animal that is not yours, to harass someone through the finder-contact feature, to scrape the service, or to break the law. We may suspend an account we reasonably believe is doing any of these.
10. Changes
We may change these terms. For a material change we will give notice by email or in the product before it takes effect. If a change to section 4.2 broadens how photographs are used, it applies only to photographs uploaded after it takes effect.
